Magnus is an American producer whose sound exists between worlds, fusing the drive and power of psytrance with the melodic and uplifting emotion of trance. Since beginning his career in 2002, Magnus has forged a style that holds no allegiance to any genre.
To everyone who has continued to listen to and support the music over the years, thank you. It means more than you know.

02 / Magnus Timeline
Over two decades of music, growth, and moments that mattered. Here are just a few of the milestones that shaped the path, the sound, and the Magnus story.
The night it all started after discovering trance through Christopher Lawrence at The Tabernacle in Atlanta, September 1999. Thank you, Christopher!
Began producing music with Reason 1.0.
First gig ever playing vinyl on my 26th birthday at Watertown in Seattle, WA. Anyone remember the Skyliner?
Continued performing throughout the Seattle area at numerous venues.
First trance release, “Turning Point,” on Discover Records under the Michael Lee alias. Later that year came the first psytrance release, “Lifeforce,” on Pharmacy Music.
Won the Sean Tyas “Melbourne” remix competition with the Michael Lee remix.
First international booking in Quebec City, Canada.
Magnus - Signal Strength album released on JOOF Recordings. First ASOT airplay with Magnus - Velvet on ASOT 532.
Performed on the White Ocean stage at Burning Man.
Gatecrasher debut @ Birmingham, UK.
Dreamstate debut. Evoke also releases this year, and I celebrate turning 40 opening for Simon @ The Church in Denver, CO.
Began a three-and-a-half-year run leading A&R for Paul Oakenfold’s Perfecto Fluoro.
Performed at A State of Trance 900 in Utrecht, then traveled to Japan for another international performance later that year.
Everything changed. COVID-19 halted the DJ world, personal heartbreak opened a darker chapter, and Magnus turned toward psybreaks for three final releases before stepping away from music.
Met Gio, also known as Sequence Six, at Dreamstate San Francisco on April 3. An extraordinary friendship began.
The Lighthouse era began with the return of Magnus on Sequence Six’s Existential 106. Months later, on September 26, that return moves from the airwaves to the dancefloor with the first Magnus performance in 5 years.

03 / About
Something I hope people know about me is that I try to move through life from a place of genuine humility. I have always believed that whatever I accomplish should speak for itself. I care deeply about people and believe everyone deserves to be treated with kindness, courtesy, and respect.
I have always been shy, and my naturally serious expression has sometimes made me appear unapproachable or distant. Nothing could be further from the truth. There were even times earlier in my career when I wanted to introduce myself to key people in the industry but lacked the confidence to do it. Looking back, I realize that my quiet nature and outward appearance did not always reflect the person I was inside.
Returning to music after so many years has given me another chance to change that impression. I am trying to smile more, meet as many of you as I can, and make sure people feel welcome around me. If you ever see me and would like to say hello, please do. Even if I do not notice you first, I will always be grateful that you came over.
I have never been very good at writing music according to rules.
There are things I love about trance, things I love about psytrance, and things I love that probably do not fit neatly into either one. For me, the point was never to decide what category I belonged in. It was to take the sounds, emotions, melodies and energy that genuinely moved me and make something that felt like my own.
When I write music, I need the freedom to follow an idea wherever it takes me. Sometimes that means something driving and psychedelic. Sometimes it means something melodic and emotional. Usually it ends up somewhere between the two.
That has not always been the easiest path. There have been times in my career when it probably would have been simpler to choose a lane, follow what a particular label wanted, or make the kind of music people already expected from me. But every time I tried to force myself in a direction because I thought I was supposed to, I enjoyed making music less, and the finished track rarely felt completely like me.
Over time I realized that this matters more to me than almost anything else creatively. I understand that people make music for many different reasons, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with writing for a label, an audience, or even working across many different styles. But when I write music, creative freedom has to come first.
I have spent more than twenty years making music, and the thing that still matters most to me is creative freedom.
